Georgia's former defense minister Irakly Okruashvili, who set up the "Movement for United Georgia" Opposition Party has decided to quit the political arena at this point, one of the Party leaders, lawmaker Koka Guntadze, told a news briefing here on Thursday. Party members met with Okruashvili on Wednesday. "Irakly's moral condition is quite hard. Given the situation and all the fine points at this stage, he has decided to quit politics, and we - his friends and partners humanely understand his moral condition and have no claims to him," Guntadze said.

He also said "Okruashvili, in the statements made on September 25, told the truth and gave an impulse to the unifications of a majority of the Opposition Parties, and the creation of the national movement against lawlessness." The National Council of the Opposition Parties /which does not include two large Opposition Parties /"New Rightists and Industry Will Save Georgia/ "will continue the struggle for democracy and hold a national rally in Tbilisi on November 2 against the authorities policy."

Okruashvili was released from prison on bail worth 10 million lari /6.05 million dollars/. He paid the sum with cash and part of his property. Georgian Deputy Prosecutor-General Nika Gvaramia said on Monday that Okruashvili “in the presence of his lawyer partially admitted himself guilty of the charges that were brought against him and began to cooperate with the investigation, and taking account of that, the Tbilisi City Court made the decision on October 8 to free him from custody on bail of 10 million lari”.
