The Health Ministry said Michael Farrugia, the MLP’s spokesman on health, should be aware that the operations being carried out were in their majority a result of the successes being achieved in the sector and as a result of new services. It would be interesting to know how Labour intended to reduce the waiting lists by 15 per cent.

Dr Farrugia either did not comprehend what he read, or else he wanted to deceive when he compared the result of a health report on Malta, announced by Euro Health Consumer Index, with another by the World Health Organisation The surveys, the ministry said, used different criteria so could not be compared with each other.

In spite of what Dr Farrugia said, it added, there was no comparison between what this government had done in the health sector, and what Labour had done when in government. The scales weighed heavily in favour of the present government, the ministry said.
