Cameroon: Rumpi Project Under Disbursement Sanction

Mbongo Molongo Noah, Board Chairman of the South West Development Authority ( SOWEDA) has expressed regrets that the RUMPI Project was still under "disbursement sanctions by the African Development Bank (ADB)", their main sponsor. The chairman was speaking while opening the 15 th Session of the Board of Directors Meeting of SOWEDA, 31 August. Mbongo Molongo said "hopes are however in the horizon for funds re-flow owing to the replacement of RUMPI 's Coordinator and the effective recruitment of a Chartered Accountant to redress the accounting mess that let to the suspension of the Project".
In a relieving speech to open the Board Meeting, the Chairman announced an imminent visit of a high-powered delegation from the Ministry of Livestock Fisheries and Animal Industries to ensure the continuation of components of the Project next year. Consequent of that inspection visit, the Board urged the Management of SOWEDA to ensure that termination dues to employees were paid to eventual staff laid-off as a result of the closure of some components of SOWEDA. The Board commanded SOWEDA to veritably get on board the train of development action in the South West Province in the days ahead.
The 15th Board Meeting of SOWEDA welcomed three new members namely: Omam Philippe representing the Ministry of Planning, Programming and Regional Development, Ndoping Michael (General Manager of the Cocoa and Coffee Board, and Zok Simon of the Institute of Agricultural Research for development. Although the Session held in camera, giving no access to pressmen, information filtered that members expressed happiness at the complete disbursement of Government subsidies to SOWEDA for 2006 and the compliance of 2007 first semester cash flow. The impact of SOWEDA and its reputation remain the subject of discussion on every lip in the Province in recent times.
