Militants used the celebrations in Bafang to reaffirm support for President Paul Biya. Militants of the Cameroon Peoples' Democratic Movement (CPDM) in the Upper Nkam (Bafang) have pledged their solidarity behind President Paul Biya, Chairman of the CPDM party and Head of State in an effort to make Cameroon a more democratic and prosperous nation. This pledge was made by Minister Jean Bernard Sindeu in Bafang on 20th October 2007 during a "thank you rally" to congratulate CPDM militants and the population of Upper Nkam for massively voting the CPDM list in the 30 September legislative elections re-run. The CPDM won all the three parliamentary seats in the Upper Nkam constituency.
The Bafang "thank you rally" was attended by the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Jean Kuete, Minister of Urban Development and Housing, Clobert Tchatat and a 40-man delegation of traditional rulers from the South Province (Cercle de Reflexion des Patiarches des Chefs Traditionnels et Notables de Dja et Lobo) led by its President Paul Ndongo Essono. Minister Jean Bernard Sindeu with all anxiety revealed that Upper Nkam desires to be in the vanguard of the CPDM in the National Assembly, progress and development. He was the CPDM campaign manager in the Upper Nkam constituency during the 22 July elections and legislative election rerun of 30 September 30. He used the occasion to thank external and internal elites, all traditional rulers and all militants who gave their support and corporation to the officials charged with the campaign and the final victory for the CPDM.
The leader of the delegation of Dja et Lobo traditional rulers who came to give their support to the Bafang CPDM, said the friendly ties between the two Divisions was going to extend beyond politics to socio-economic exchanges. He said his delegation came to Bafang to see how the doors were slightly opened for the CPDM on the 30 September election re-run and to tell the CPDM militants thank you. He said the CPDM was not a sit-tight party as so many people think but a party that works for the life and interest of the population. For his part, the CPDM Central Committee Member and assistant campaign manager of the CPDM in the last elections for the West Province, Vice Prime Minister Jean Kuete, revealed that the "thank you rally" was necessary and imperative because in Upper Nkam the CPDM had very strong challengers who from the beginning of the elections campaigns stood firm for victory but the determined population stood behind the CPDM. The Vice Prime Minister said after the CPDM victory it was time to match words with actions and provide the people with what is available and quickly too.
