A presidential aspirant of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Mr. Bright Akwetey, has called on the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to prosecute all those found by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to have embezzled state funds to demonstrate that our laws can bite. "What have been revealed at the Public Accounts Committee must not be left like that. Those who are found guilty must be prosecuted so that the public would know that the law can bite," he said, stressing that, "My strong point is to fight crime and corruption. I have done it from 1978 and will continue to do it. I have grown to understand how this crime works and it must be fought with an iron fists."
Bright Akwetey was speaking to the media after filing his nomination forms at the CPP headquarters in Accra on Tuesday this week. He noted that the revelations at the PAC sittings were so shocking that it was only punishment by imprisonment if found guilty that could serve as deterrent to others. According to him, the revelation also showed that the crime of embezzlement was on the ascendancy. "This requires a strong hand and somebody with the courage and determination to fight it.
With my track records to dispose of crime and corruption, I should be allowed to do it because none has done it before and it should not be allowed." Mr. Bright Akwetey also criticised both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for introducing money into our politics and thus throwing away dedication and competence.
