Nigerian Governor leads trade mission to US

Governor of Nigeria's North-Central State, Kano, Ibrahim Shekarau, is expected in the US Sunday to begin a seven-day trade mission to some American cities, PANA learnt here Friday. According to a statement signed by the mission's Co-ordinator, US-based Nigerian business resource expert, Prof. Louis Nzegwu, Governor Shekarau will lead a delegation of the Kano State Government officials and businessmen, to foster economic relations between the state and the US cities.
Nzegwu disclosed the delegation would begin its investment drive in Madison City in the State of Wisconsin, before proceeding to Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Chicago. According to him: "Governor Shekarau will hold bilateral trade and investment meetings and visit educational and research institutions, manufacturing facilities and other public and private business outfits." "He will also meet with both political and business leaders in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota to explore investment opportunities," he said.
The delegation included Ahmed Yakasai, the state commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperative, and his counterpart in the Economic Planning and Budget, Nour Sani Hanga. Others are Dr. Bashir Galandanci, the Governor's Special Adviser on Education and Information Technology, Ibrahim Ado-Kurawa, the Special Adviser and Director-General, Research and Documentation Directorate in the Governor's Office. Also on the mission is Alhaji Isiyaku Tofa, an industrialist and a director of Intercontinental Bank, among others. PANA learnt that the business talks will centre on agriculture, mining, real estate, science and technology, and international trade. Last May, the Governor of Wisconsin, Jim Doyle, urged Nigerian state governments to collaborate with their counterparts in the US to establish business ventures.
