Nepali Politics Feel Good Factor Required

The deepening differences among the Nepali political actors and players have made the Nepali politics become a subject of contradictions, inconsistencies and disagreements. The leaders of seven-political parties do not let go a chance to criticize, condemn and ridicule one another. This is happening although they are the part of an alliance having the utmost responsibility of rescuing the nation out of the present political deadlock and guide it towards enduring peace and sustainable development.

The present political quagmire has pushed the issue of peace and development into abyss as political parties have locked their horns over the issue of Constituent Assembly (CA) polls, republicanism and proportional electoral system in recent days. The dissatisfaction of the political parties have even spilled to the road. Leaders and their workers often organize mass rallies and general strikes so that they could put pressures on the government, a combination of seven-party alliance, to meet their demands of whatever nature, character and shapes.

At the root of the present political turmoil is the 22-point demand of the CPN (Maoist), of which the demand is for the declaration of the state as republicanism from the floor of the Legislature Parliament and the total proportional electoral system to be followed for the upcoming CA polls. We know that the Maoists have joined the mainstream politics following the 12-point agreement with six political parties and the success of the Popular Movement II. The present demands of the Maoists openly contradict with their initial pledges that the fate of the monarchy would be decided from the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly. They have also showed their faith on the mixed electoral system as against their present demand for total proportional elections.
