An earthquake measuring 4.6 in magnitude occurred off Martinique Wednesday afternoon. The University of the West Indies Seismic Unit at the St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago said the earthquake was felt in St. Lucia as well as Scotts Head in Dominica and Antigua but there were no reports of damage.
Several Caribbean residents were jolted November 29 last year when a powerful earthquake centred 25 miles south of Dominica hit the islands, sending thousands of people scampering from shaking buildings.
That quake was felt in St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Kitts & Nevis, Guadeloupe and Anguilla. There were also reports of tremors being felt as far south as Guyana on the South American mainland and as far north as Puerto Rico.
