St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas opened his country’s embassy here Monday saying he anticipated “many more years of bilateral cooperation and mutual advancement.” The Republic of China on Taiwan (ROC) was the first nation to establish diplomatic relations with St Kitts and Nevis after her independence from Britain 25 years ago. Douglas said that relationship “has been one of steady and constructive solidarity.”

Addressing guests at the opening ceremony, Douglas said both countries have been able to “to depend without question” on the support of the other “on matters of importance”. “Our relationship therefore has been one of meaningful symbiosis. It has been one of positive and constructive synergies and it has been one of mutual respect and result-oriented bilateral cooperation,” he said.

He noted that that visit to Taipei was his seventh, adding that with each visit he had been warmly received by her government and people. “In the West, the number seven is considered a harbinger of good things, of positive outcomes and of great success. So when one reflects on the reason for my being here today, I think that it is appropriate that this is indeed my seventh visit - a visit of success.”
