ST JOHN'S, Antigua: Barbudans are closer to receiving a brand new community centre to be constructed by China. Last weekend members of the Barbuda Council sat down with representatives of the Chinese government and Antigua and Barbuda's Ambassador to China to finalise the plans for the facility.

Construction on the Community Centre in Barbuda, which will include a gym, administrative offices, meeting halls, reading rooms and a computer centre, is expected to commence within the next few weeks.

Minister for Barbuda Affairs Trevor Walker, who was part of the meeting, said that he is delighted that they have arrived at this phase whereby they can agree on the final plans for the facility. He said that China is demonstrating that it is a true friend of Barbuda with the donation of the facility, which is much needed on the sister island.
