Several doctors from the region and internationally were on Tuesday welcomed to the British Virgin Islands for their 2008 BVI Plastic Surgery Meeting. Premier Ralph O’Neal and Deputy Premier Dancia Penn, QC welcomed the distinguished doctors and surgeons at the opening of the meeting Tuesday.

During their remarks both the Premier and Deputy Premier said that the Government and people of the Territory are grateful that the organisers have selected Tortola for the important meeting. “We are most pleased to host this workshop. I understand that many of you lobbied to make sure the meeting was held in the BVI because this is your preferred destination,” the Premier said. In addition he recognised the meeting’s co-chairperson Dr Ian Jackson for being instrumental in bringing the conference to the Territory.

The Premier commended the work and contributions of eminent BVI-based surgeon Dr. Robin Tattersall, whom he credited for establishing a respected plastic and reconstructive surgery practice in the Territory. “Over the years the Bougainvillea Clinic has progressively become a reputable clinic internationally. This is excellent and free publicity from which our Territory has benefited as a tourist destination,” noted the Premier, who also welcomed participants to the meeting in his role as the Territory’s Minister for Tourism.
