As far as Christmas Island Style goes, it was a hat trick -- great weather for the boat parade, great weather for the street parade and again it was a perfect night for the second annual awards ceremony Tuesday night at Marco Community Bank. The chairman of Christmas Island Style, Steve Stefanides, thanked bank officials for hosting the awards event on their spacious upstairs outdoor balcony. "They do this as a community effort," he told the gathering.

There were more than 50 entrants for the street parade and 14 for the boat parade. Stefanides reminded everyone the board begins its work early in the year. "It doesn't start in November," he said. "We actually started meeting back in February and March. It's a pretty big job and if it wasn't for all the volunteers and board members we wouldn't have nearly the success of the program that we have."

Among other things, Stefanides gave credit to the Italian-American club for the community Christmas tree. "It is the generosity of this community which really makes it a great place for all of us to live, to bring up our families and to enjoy life," he said. "You, the people sitting here, are part of that. If it weren't for the generosity of the Marco community we wouldn't have things like Christmas Island Style and Dancing with the Stars. Nor would we have a community bank like this, which is very dedicated to what gets done in this community."
