Tonga’s Public Service Association is suing the Government and Prime Minster for the unlawful dismissal and ill treatment of a public servant.
The PSA Legal Counsel, Clive Edwards, served a writ of summons against the Prime Minister, Dr Feleti Sevele, and the Government of Tonga for unlawful banning of a public servant, Mele ’Amanaki, from her home in December 2006 after the riots in Nuku’alofa. He also alleges that Ms ’Amanaki suffered ill-treatment at work after the six-week national strike of public servants in 2005.
Ms Amanaki, who is now the Secretary General of the PSA, says a writ has also been served against the public service commissioners and the government for unlawful dismissal in August 2007.
